Eala Chasing Third Straight Top-Ten Scalp in Washington

Hard courts in Washington are a very different proposition from grass in Germany, however, and Svitolina's flat, penetrating ball-striking has historically been more effective on the faster surfaces. She is a two-time finalist at the US Open and knows what it takes to perform under pressure on the North American summer hardcourt circuit.

Pegula–Kalinskaya Set for Another Marathon

Top seed Jessica Pegula takes on Anna Kalinskaya in the quarterfinal that may well produce the longest match of the day. Their rivalry has become one of the most reliably compelling on the WTA Tour: all five of their previous meetings have gone to three sets, and Pegula comes in with the home-court advantage of playing on American hardcourts in front of a crowd that will be firmly behind her. Naomi Osaka faces Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the third singles quarterfinal, aiming to reach her first Washington DC semifinal and continue a summer campaign that has steadily gathered momentum ahead of the US Open.
