Los Cabos SF Set: Shapovalov, Norrie, Gea and Wong All Through

The 2026 Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo has its final four confirmed. Denis Shapovalov and Cameron Norrie advanced through their respective quarterfinals on Thursday to join qualifier Coleman Wong and France's Arthur Gea, who produced two of the most compelling matches of the week in the lower half of the draw.

Wong and Gea Earn Their Spots the Hard Way

The two most dramatic quarterfinals both finished in three sets. Coleman Wong — the Hong Kong qualifier who stunned top seed Jiří Lehečka in the previous round — refused to let his run end quietly. After dropping the opening set 1-6, Wong found his range in set two and completed a composed 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback win against American Jenson Brooksby. It was his fifth consecutive victory at the tournament, and the result keeps his extraordinary week alive with a top-100 debut now within reach should he progress further.

In the other bottom-half match, Arthur Gea of France proved the more consistent player when it mattered, beating Francisco Cerundolo 6-4, 6-7(8), 6-2. Cerundolo took the second-set tiebreak after a closely fought 10-point exchange, but Gea responded decisively in the third, pulling away to close in just over two hours. The Frenchman, who entered the week without a headline result in Mexico, has grown into the tournament across every round.

Shapovalov and Norrie Hold Firm

Denis Shapovalov, the defending champion who won this title in 2025, continued his composed progression through the top half of the draw. He came into the quarterfinals with five wins from five matches on the Los Cabos hard courts and maintained that level to reach the last four. The Canadian left-hander is playing with the kind of fluid aggression that won him the trophy a year ago, and he will be a heavy favourite to return to Sunday's final.

Cameron Norrie also advanced efficiently through his section of the bracket. The Briton has experience at Los Cabos and has navigated the draw without the drama that has characterised the bottom half. He is through to the last four without having faced a player in Wong or Gea's form — that will change on Saturday.

Saturday's Semifinal Pairings

The two Los Cabos semifinals are scheduled for Saturday August 1: Shapovalov meets Norrie, and Wong faces Gea. The first of those is a match between two experienced players who have been in this position at tour level before. The second is entirely without precedent for both participants at this stage of a tour event.

Whether it is a first-time finalist from the bottom half or Shapovalov defending his title, Sunday's final at the Los Cabos ATP 250 is set to feature at least one player who has never reached this stage of the tournament before. Wong, in particular, has made this one of the feel-good stories of the North American hardcourt summer.
