Guadalajara QF Set: Stearns, Stephens, Bucsa, Bejlek Advance
Four Wednesday R16 wins complete the Guadalajara WTA 500 quarterfinal draw. Stearns, Stephens, Bucsa and Bejlek join Kostyuk, Samsonova and Frech in Thursday's last eight.

Wednesday Seals the Guadalajara Last Eight
The Guadalajara Open quarterfinal field was all but settled on Wednesday after four second-round matches produced straight-set results. Sloane Stephens rode two tiebreaks to beat Janice Tjen 7-6, 7-6 in one of the day's tightest encounters, finding her best tennis at the critical moments of each set. Peyton Stearns was more commanding, sending French contender Diane Parry packing in straight sets to set up a blockbuster all-American quarterfinal. Spain's Cristina Bucsa was the day's most efficient performer, dispatching Panna Udvardy 6-4, 6-4 without ever looking troubled. Czech teenager Sára Bejlek rounded out the programme with a straight-set defeat of Alycia Parks.
These four results complete a quarterfinal picture that already featured Tuesday's survivors: top seed Marta Kostyuk, Liudmila Samsonova and Magdalena Frech. The eighth spot in the last eight depends on the outcome of Wednesday's final R16 encounter between defending champion Iva Jovic and Zeynep Sönmez.
Stearns vs Stephens: The Headline Clash
The standout quarterfinal on Thursday is the all-American meeting between Stearns and Stephens. It is a compelling generational matchup: Stephens, a former US Open champion and one of the WTA tour's most enduring competitors, faces the younger Stearns, who has built a reputation as one of the most reliable closers on the hard-court circuit over the past two seasons. Stearns demonstrated exactly those qualities on Wednesday, breaking early and keeping Parry at arm's length throughout. Stephens, for her part, showed the battle-hardened clutch play that has defined much of her career, saving the most important points in both tiebreaks.
Kostyuk Against Samsonova; Bucsa Meets Bejlek
In the top half of the draw, Kostyuk faces Samsonova in a baseline duel that promises sustained physicality. The top seed, who has not dropped a set in Guadalajara, opened her campaign by beating Taylor Townsend to claim her first top-10 win of the autumn hard-court swing. Samsonova arrives in equally aggressive mood, having also moved through the draw without conceding a set.
Bucsa and Bejlek meet in the lower half's key tie. The Spaniard has conceded only eight games across her two matches and her precision from the baseline has been the feature of her week. Bejlek brings energy and flat hitting in return. Neither player has dropped a set, so the quarterfinal is set up as a genuine fifty-fifty.
Jovic's Title Defence on the Line
The final R16 showdown — Iva Jovic against Zeynep Sönmez — adds one more layer of intrigue to Thursday's draw. Jovic lifted the Guadalajara trophy twelve months ago and knows these courts intimately. If she advances she will meet Magdalena Frech, who came through her Tuesday match without serious difficulty. A Jovic win would breathe fresh narrative into the bottom half of the draw; a Sönmez upset would confirm the Turkish player's impressive run of form since the US Open swing.
Quarterfinals at the Guadalajara Open are scheduled to begin Thursday, September 17. Semi-finals follow on Friday, with the final set for Saturday, September 19.
