Auger-Aliassime pulls out of Basel too, ending his ATP Finals bid
Félix Auger-Aliassime will skip Brussels and Basel with the knee injury he suffered in Shanghai. The withdrawals end his bid for Turin and will push him out of the top 10.

Félix Auger-Aliassime's 2026 bid for the ATP Finals is over. The Canadian confirmed on Saturday that the knee injury he suffered at the Shanghai Masters will keep him out for the next two weeks. That rules him out of the European Open in Brussels and the Swiss Indoors in Basel, two tournaments where he has lifted the trophy before.
"After injuring my knee during my match in Shanghai earlier this week, my team and I have decided to skip the next two weeks of competition," Auger-Aliassime wrote on Instagram. "Unfortunately, that means I have to withdraw from Brussels and Basel, two tournaments I have won and where I absolutely love to play. Now, I will focus on my recovery and work hard to return to competition as soon as possible."
Injured early against Ruud
The problem started in Shanghai's round of 16 against Casper Ruud. According to reports, Auger-Aliassime felt something in his knee on a point early in the opening set, tried to play on, and retired once the pain became too intense. Ruud later called the injury "very unfortunate".
Brussels and Basel were meant to be his best chance to catch up in the race for Turin. The indoor swing has often suited his game: he has won titles in both cities, and Brussels alone would have offered him the chance to defend a crown. Missing both events ends any hope of a late charge.
Turin out of reach, top 10 spot gone
Reports say Auger-Aliassime will lose the 250 points from his Brussels title and slip to 15th in the Race to Turin, leaving him with no realistic route into the eight-man field. The absences will also push him out of the top 10 in the ATP rankings.
Without its defending champion, Brussels is led by top seed Arthur Fils, and the week will also be David Goffin's farewell. Basel, which starts on 26 October, has lost a former winner as well. Joao Fonseca, last year's champion, announced his own withdrawal on the same day.
Paris decision pending
The next question is the Rolex Paris Masters, where Auger-Aliassime reached the final last year and has a large points haul to defend. According to French outlet We Love Tennis, he will rest first and then assess his fitness before deciding whether he can play in the French capital.
If he does not recover in time, it would mean a third straight event missed at the worst point of the calendar for his ranking. If he does, Paris would be his first match since that brief Shanghai appearance, and a chance to limit the damage before the season ends. The Paris Masters is the final Masters 1000 event of the year and starts straight after Basel.
